Giant Tiger team wins National Philanthropy Award
Giant Tiger stores took top honour, the National Philanthropy Award, on November 16, 2012, during the National Philanthropy Day Luncheon and Awards Ceremony in Edmonton, for their fundraising efforts in support of the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation.
"Our employees and customers are very enthusiastic about supporting the Stollery Children's hospital," says Lynn Fraser, Regional Support Manager for Giant Tiger in Alberta. "The friendly rivalry among stores makes the fundraising fun and helps increase the amount we can raise. It was very rewarding for all concerned to be recognized with a Philanthropy Award."
National Philanthropy Day is dedicated to celebrating all donors, volunteers, and organizations that have made donations in order to improve their communities. Giant Tiger was presented with the National Philanthropy Award, in the Health category.
Through donor support, the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation enhances the care children receive at the Stollery Children's Hospital. The Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation provides funding for specialty programs that promote health, as well as funding for research, technology and equipment.
"Giant Tiger began supporting us in 2010 by running icon campaigns in their Edmonton area stores. By 2012 the campaign had grown to include support from the entire province of Alberta," says Brianne Broughton, Corporate Giving Coordinator at the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation. "We look forward to working with their enthusiastic, dedicated staff each year and their support truly goes a long way in helping the more than 200,000 children who visit the Stollery each year."
Since partnering with the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation in 2010, Giant Tiger Alberta has raised more than $31 000 through the sale of the Stollery paper bear icons across the province. The paper icons are sold for two dollars each and all the proceeds go to charity.
Giant Tiger's work to support children's health initiatives also extends beyond the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation. Across Western Canada, Giant Tiger has raised over $70 000 for children's health.
