The North West Company- Supporting Partner of Northern Scene
The North West Company is honored to be named, Supporting Partner of Northern Scene, donating a total of $25,000 to support the event taking place from April 25-May 4, 2013 in Ottawa.
Northern Scene is part of a series of biennial festivals produced by the National Arts Centre designed to promote artistic talent and culture showcasing the many different regions of Canada. To date, over 3,000 artists have benefited from this opportunity to perform on a national stage.
Northern Scene will present 250 artists from Nunavut, Yukon, N.W.T., Nunavik and Nunatsiavut in venues throughout the nation’s capital. Everything from music, theatre, film to storytelling and culinary arts will come together to create a broad portrait of the region’s cultural diversity.
During Northern Scene, the National Arts Centre will bring over 50 domestic and international presenters and “talent scouts” to Ottawa to attend performances, exhibitions and showcases creating exposure for the artists.
For the northern territories and regions, Northern Scene will draw national attention to the contemporary and dynamic face of Canada’s North, providing Canadians with a better understanding of the region, culture, history, values and traditions as well as invest in the development of “export ready” work and programs to help sustain the cultural life of this important region in Canada.
This event will provide Northern artists with the opportunity for artistic and career development while gaining media exposure in the national press and other news outlets. The NWC is pleased to support the traditional and contemporary work done by First Nations, Inuit and Metis artists across Canada.
