Northern Supports Annual Winter Festivals
The North West Company is honored to play an active role in supporting and promoting the culture and heritage in our communities during several winter festivals and carnivals throughout the spring.
Northern was pleased to donate gift cards to purchase prizes and supplies for the English River First Nation Winter Festival in Patuanak and the Black Lake Annual Winter Festival.
NWC and the Northern store partnered together to donate a Skidoo for the Southend Winter Fest. The Skidoo donation is used as a grand prize for the events largest fundraiser, The Texas Hold’em Tournament. Northern and the hamlet of Fort Resolution worked together to donate a Yamaha Kodiak quad to the Carnival Committee for the Winter Carnival. Pictured below is the Southend Skidoo winner, Ernest Clarke, and the winner of the Fort Resolution Kodiak was Arthur Sanderson.
NWC and Northern South Indian Lake parterned to provide travel mugs for all visitors to the community during their Winter Festival and in Aklavik, Northern donated a flat screen TV, iPad Touch and 45 gallons of gas as raffle prizes to the Mad Trapper Carnival.
In April, NWC partnered with Inuvik NorthMart to sponsor three events at the Muskrat Jamboree and in Tuktoyaktuk, Northern donated $1,500 in supplies for the community feast in addition to providing store staff volunteers for some events.
The Winter Festival is a great opportunity for families, friends and surrounding communities to come together to participate in fun sporting activities and events while celebrating the tradition and culture in the community.
