Little Teeth Are a Big Deal
Did you know that 50 per cent of children will get a cavity in one of their baby teeth before age 6? It’s very important for children to take care of their teeth and gums starting at a young age, and since April is Dental Health Month, Northern and NorthMart are pleased to announce a new partnership with the Northwest Territories Health Department (NTHD) to promote dental and oral health in children.
NTHD launched The Dental Health Promotion Project – Family Dental Health Promotion Kits with the project theme ‘Little Teeth are a Big Deal’, to raise awareness about oral health.
As part of the program, families in the Northwest Territories will receive free dental kits from partner organizations like Healthy Family Programs, and Dental Therapists in the Northwest Territories. These organizations provide programs and services for young children and their families. The kits will be available for several months starting in April.
As part of our partnership, Northern and NorthMart worked with Parmalat to donate coupons for free 200g Black Diamond Cheese which will be included in the dental kits. Studies have shown that eating cheese can help prevent cavities for all ages.
East 3 Elementary School is also celebrating Dental Health Month with their students. Recently NorthMart Inuvik was approached for healthy snacks, and donated yogurt, apples, and baby carrots for the 450 students.
