Funding for Student Entrepreneurial Program
As part of The North West Company’s ongoing commitment to supporting education, we are pleased to announce $5,000 in sponsorship to Children of the Earth High School for their Aboriginal Youth Entrepreneurship Program.
The goal of the Aboriginal Youth Entrepreneurship Program is to encourage Aboriginal youth to stay in school where they can develop the attitudes, knowledge and skills necessary to achieve success in secondary school, postsecondary education or training, the workplace and daily life. Students are given entrepreneurial experience and the opportunity for business ownership.
Using innovative hands-on activities, guest speakers, and business mentors, Aboriginal students learn how to create a product or service-based business. The funding provided goes towards starting each student-run micro-business.
Research conducted by Lakehead University found that because of AYEP, students had increased motivation, self-confidence and leadership skills, and that the course completion rate averaged 70% with most of the students who completed the two courses, graduating from high school.
Good luck to all the students taking part in the Aboriginal Youth Entrepreneurship Program, we wish you and your businesses much success.
