Nor Westers use a Little Elbow Grease for a Good Cause
On Thursday May 24th, The North West Company employees along with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Winnipeg and NorWest Co-op Community Health took part in the 3rd Annual United Way Day of Caring in Gilbert Park.
Throughout the day volunteers and community members got on their hands and knees to prepare the community gardens for planting and construct new garden boxes that will allow residents to grow fresh produce in their own yard.
“It was a phenomenal day and I know the community was thrilled to have The North West Company back and helping get the gardens ready for planting,” said United Way of Winnipeg’s community involvement manager, Melissa Campbell. “The volunteers from The North West Company always amaze me – everyone is so eager to work and they give 110% throughout the day. The amount of work that was accomplished in a single day was outstanding!”
Gilbert Park is Manitoba’s largest public housing community With 254 units comprised of nearly 1500 individuals, including over 500 youth under the age of 23.
