NorthMart Tim Hortons Helps Send Two Iqaluit Girls to Camp
Doing cannon balls off the dock, sitting around a campfire telling ghost stories, and licking your fingers from an ooey gooey s’more is something most of us take for granted. But for two Iqaluit girls, that simple summertime experience is something they have only dreamed of – until now.
“It’s my first time going to camp,” says a nervous 12-year-old Maria Nooshoota adding that she is excited to experience life at camp and feels lucky to be going.
Eleven-year-old Uviluq Ammaq agrees, and says she wants one simple thing when she goes off to Quyon Quebec for camp. “To have fun!”
On Wednesday June 6th Iqaluit NorthMart and Tim Hortons hosted the annual Tim Hortons Camp Day in support of the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation which sends deserving kids to camp for an unforgettable experience.
Together, NorthMart and Tim Hortons’ customers raised $5,900 to give Maria and Uviluq a summer camp experience they will never forget.
Coffee drinkers in Iqaluit sipped their way to raising $4,000 – over 1600 hot drinks – on Camp Day, and on top of that already impressive number, a community BBQ hosted by the local RCMP sold $1,900 in hot dogs, drinks and merchandise.
“NorthMart and Tim Hortons Camp Day is a great event to showcase our commitment to improve the lives of the kids in the communities we serve,” says Sarah Gay, Manager Community Support, The North West Company.
“The turnout for this year’s camp day exceeded my expectations. The NorthMart Tim Hortons was buzzing all day with excited customers who wanted to do nothing more than support Maria and Uviluq. I think the fact that we raised $1500 more than last year proves what a great success 2012 Camp Day was. Thank you to our customers!”
This would not have been possible without the efforts of the NorthMart and Tim Hortons’ staff. The North West Company would like to extend a thank you to the staff along with all the warm-hearted customers who recognized the importance of sending a child to camp.
The $5,900 raised surpassed last year’s donation by $1500! The funds raised were more than enough to send both girls off to summer camp in Quyon, Quebec.
