2009 Community Support - Highlights

IVAKKAK 2009

Thirteen teams participated in a difficult, yet remarkable, journey that has become the North’s most popular event: Ivakkak, Nunavik’s dog team race. Now in its eight edition, Ivakkak is moving from an annual to a biennial format to allow the pure-breed Inuit husky dog population to grow and also provide more time for the teams to better prepare for this event. The Makivik Corporation is proud to host this race, which provides Inuit elders with an opportunity to share their ancestral knowledge with the new generation whose way of life has changed significantly during this modern era. The North West Company is a proud silver level sponsor of this annual event.

Sponsorship & Donations

The North West Company (NWC), is proud of the active role we play within the communities we serve. A large number of our sponsorships/donations are advanced to community related events, local causes and charitable organizations.

Our priorities are to support:
  1. Health
  2. Welfare
  3. Education
  4. Arts and Culture
  5. Youth Causes
  6. Athletics/Recreation

NWC is among the top corporations in Manitoba. As a result of this status the company attracts many sponsorship and donation requests from all beneficiary sectors on an annual basis, with many organizations sending more than one proposal in a given year.

Proposals and requests are assessed on an individual basis that promote and enhance the company’s priority causes as outlined above. They should represent opportunities for positive exposure and promotion of the NWC brand and its banners.

Requests for sponsorship are usually forwarded to the Corporate Donations Committee or local store(s) serving the community where the event will take place. It is NWC policy that our stores support local causes and programs as an active member of the communities we serve.

An ‘Application For Sponsorship’ form must be completed and submitted for consideration. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for review and assessment. If you are submitting your application in person at a store within your community, simply print out the form and submit it to your local store manager’s attention. Requests must be submitted at least six months prior to the date of the event to be considered.

NWC recognizes the value and importance of all requests, unfortunately, we can not participate in every opportunity. We thank you in advance for your consideration of The North West Company. Requests can also be e-mailed to communitysupport@northwest.ca
