Community members of Clyde River, NU will have an opportunity to reconnect with their heritage thanks to a $4,000 grant from Northern and the Greener Tomorrow Program.

The grant to the Ilisaqsivik Society will be used to help support the "Ataata Ammalu Irniq Nunami" (AAIN) project. AAIN is a land-based program that provides an opportunity for men, youth, adults, and elders to interact and communicate cultural skills, knowledge and experiences, all while building bonds of trust through harvesting, traveling, camping and spending time on the land together.

"The Northern Store is one of Ilisaqsivik's key local partners in Clyde River," said Malcolm Ranta, Executive Director. "Its great to see them not just recognize the important programming we do in the community but also give back and help support this programming to make it as successful as possible."

"We are part of the community we live in, and it is important for The North West Company to support community based programs and organizations such as the Ilisaqsivik Society," said Alan Cook, Store Manager.

The Greener Tomorrow Program reduces the plastic waste in communities while supporting local initiatives. Customers are charged a fee for plastic bags, then all funds collected throughout the year are reinvested back into the community.
