The North West Company's Healthy Horizons Foundation was pleased to once again make a sizeable contribution towards the Heart & Stroke Foundation with a $20,000 grant.

The Heart & Stroke Foundation is focused on helping to build capacity in Indigenous communities by collaborating with Indigenous health leaders and providing an elementary-level classroom resource, HeartSmart Kids, which supports teachers in their efforts to teach children from Kindergarten to Grade 6 about healthy living, physical activity and nutrition.

Over the last two years, Healthy Horizons Foundation has donated $40,000, helping nearly 100 schools and health centres in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

“Healthy Horizons is committed to nurturing the strength of the communities they operate in, and with the HeartSmart Kids program they have empowered Indigenous children and youth to learn and embrace best heart and brain health practices,” says Mie Larsen, Development Advisor at Heart & Stroke, Manitoba.

Larson says the grant will support the delivery of the program to over 15 classrooms in northern communities including those served by The North West Company such as Brochet, Churchill, Crosslake, God's Lake Narrows, and many more.

“We are so grateful for the support from Healthy Horizons and look forward to continuing our partnership." adds Larsen.
