The SaniraJak Food Bank receives a $10,000 Greener Tomorrow donation presented by Sanirajak Northern Store Manager, Barry Tarrant.

Sanirajak, NU received a boost that will help it feed hungry families, thanks to the Greener Tomorrow initiative.

Sanirajak is one of the many communities that have teamed up with the Northern stores to take part in Greener Tomorrow.  This year, the program awarded the Sanirajak Food Bank with a $10,000 grant, which will be used to fund a food bank for the community. Members and volunteers of the Food Bank will use the funds to purchase necessary ingredients to cook fresh meals, and will then distribute the meals to families and individuals in need through the volunteers’ homes.

“These funds will help us give back and support the community during these challenging times,” shared Sanirajak Northern Store Manager Barry Tarrant.

Northern/NorthMart runs the Greener Tomorrow program intending to eliminate the use of plastic grocery bags. To encourage the use of environmentally friendly alternatives, customers are charged a fee each time a non-reusable plastic bag is used. Unique to the industry, the program fees are accumulated over the year, with 100 per cent of the funds returning to the community to support environmental and social programs.
