Thanks to a Greener Tomorrow grant, Clyde River, NU and its residents will have a cleaner and greener community.

The Northern store recently made a presentation to The Municipality of Clyde River with a donation of $2,203 to help fund a community-wide cleanup.

Community members, summer students, as well and the hamlet’s employees came together to carry out the cleanup in mid-July. Unlike the past few years, no celebratory events could take place as part of the cleanup due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, residents are extremely satisfied with the efforts to preserve their community.

“The Clyde River Northern store is pleased to help fund initiatives within our community, such as this annual summer cleanup. In addition to the Greener Tomorrow cheque, we also provided garbage bags and gloves so everyone could have a fun, safe, socially distanced event,” said Clyde River Northern Store Manager Alan Cook.

The residents of the community are now well-acquainted with the Greener Tomorrow initiative and look forward to participating in, as well as contributing to the program, every year. Cook said he is extremely proud of the residents’ willingness and effort to make the community a better place to live.

The Greener Tomorrow Program reduces the plastic waste in communities while supporting local initiatives. Customers are charged a fee for plastic bags, then all funds collected throughout the year are reinvested back into the community.
