Participants of the walk gather at the Southend Northern Store.

Residents and Northern Store staff members from Southend, SK, took part in a 3 kilometre communal walk to raise awareness about suicide prevention, as part of World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10.

Participants carried posters with quotes and photos of people in their lives who they had lost to suicide. The walk began and ended at the local Child and Family Services office, with a stop at the Southend Northern store.

The 39 community members and 4 staff members who took part were treated to water and juice during the walk and snacks afterwards, all generously donated by the Southend Northern store.

“Many of us have been touched by suicide and the loss of a loved one, family member or friend. The goal for the walk was to raise awareness about Suicide Prevention and to remember those lost to suicide,” said Stella Gazandlare, Southend Northern Store Manager.
