Children shouldn’t have to start the day hungry – and a school breakfast program in Iqaluit, NU, is working to prevent just that.

The Joamie Ilinniarvik School Breakfast Program aims to alleviate food insecurity for students in the community.

Joamie School delivers quality education, in Inuktitut and English, to students in Kindergarten through Grade 5. Its breakfast program serves delicious and nutritious breakfast packages to 271 students. The program also makes use of the school’s food bank to provide lunch, which students get to take home to fuel their adventures throughout the day. Students are treated to a variety of nutritious, delicious and healthy food items including fruits, yogurt, cheese, cereal, milk and more.

The program receives support from a variety of community stakeholders and government funding programs. The Iqaluit NorthMart store is proud to have recently provided $10,000 in support of the program.

Iqaluit NorthMart’s Store Manager, John Kelly, and his team are very happy to support the program and serve the community. “We're so pleased to make a donation to the Joamie School Breakfast Program. We've even had the chance to see the operation and how it serves 271 students in the school,” said Kelly.
