Residents of Rossville, MB have enjoyed a long and entertaining Christmas season with a variety of activities – helping keep spirits bright for nearly two months.

The Norway House Cree Nation (NHCN) Healthy Living Division organized 12 different contests related to Christmas or seasonal activities to entertain children and adults in Rossville, MB and bring joy during this unusual Christmas and Holiday Season.

The contests and activities for residents kicked off November 18, 2020 and ended January 11, 2021 and included competitions for best Christmas lights, Christmas carol singing, a Christmas lights parade, Holiday family feud, and Christmas Eve storytelling. Photos, videos of projects and written submissions were all posted to the NHCN Healthy Living Division Facebook page, where the contests were hosted. These activities were sponsored by several organizations, including the Kinosao Sipi Minisowin Agency, Muchipunowin Program, NHCN Gaming Commission and Northern Store.

The Northern Store in Rossville was happy to collaborate in the coordination of these community-based activities by providing $1,000 worth of prizes for winners of the Kids’ colouring contest, the Christmas Eve storytelling contest, snow sculpture contest, Christmas lights contest, homemade Christmas decoration contest, Christmas display contest, Christmas gingerbread house contest and Children’s 3D arts & crafts competition.

Northern Store Manager Jason Winter was very happy to support the activities. “We continue to show the communities in which we serve that pandemic or not, we are still there and are part of their community. Now more than ever, it is vital that we be a community partner and help find ways to allow our customers to enjoy the season, but in a way that’s safe for everyone,” he said.
