Coral Harbour, otherwise known as “Salliq”, which means “large, flat island in front of the mainland” in Inuktitut, is home to the Sallirmuit people and has pristine waters with flourishing wildlife surrounding its immediate vicinity. The community is located on Southampton Island and is 1,786 km northeast of Winnipeg, MB.

With a population of 890 residents (as per Statistics Canada census 2016) where about 95% are Indigenous, Coral Harbour’s residents predominantly speak Inuktitut alongside English. The remote community of Coral Harbour is solely accessible by air through Coral Harbour Airport from Rankin Inlet.
