Pickle Lake was officially incorporated as a township in 1980. It is located 537 km north of Thunder Bay and 263 km north of Sioux Lookout, and is the region’s transportation hub with a strong tourism scene thriving off the area’s lush greenery and unrestrained wilderness.

The township is accessible year-round by road through the Trans-Canada Highway 599 S., and through the Pickle Lake Airport with a North Star Air freight hub located southwest of the main township.

With a population of 388 residents (as per Statistics Canada’s 2016 Census), the community’s spoken languages are Cree, Oji-Cree, Ojibway and English.

Pickle Lake’s Northern Store Manager, Wayne Patey, and his team are significant community supporters.

“It hasn’t been very long since I’ve joined the community here at Pickle Lake, but I’m already getting a sense for how people treat one another here. I’m thankful for being welcomed, and I’m looking forward to helping out at the barbeque we’re having next month,” Patey says.
