Residents of Pinawa, MB will continue to enjoy pleasant trails with support from a Greener Tomorrow grant.

On Earth Day 2022, Pinawa Trails Association received a grant of $5,146 from Solo Market’s Greener Tomorrow program. Thanks to the assistance of The Pinawa Foundation, funds were awarded to Pinawa Trails for the Trans Canada Trail (TCT) to upgrade the Winter Walking Trail on the North Channel route.

The trail is 28 km in length and stretches from the Seven Sisters Generating Station at its westernmost location to the Old Pinawa Dam Provincial Park to the north. The trails have seen increased visitor traffic during the last two years due to the pandemic, increasing the need for maintenance. Individuals use the trails to stay healthy and for their well-being by taking walks, snowshoeing or taking a ride on their snowmobile.

“Pinawa Foundation is pleased to have brought Solo’s generosity and concern for our environment together with the Trans Canada Trail to help them with their ongoing trail maintenance,” said Carol Findlay, The Pinawa Foundation.

The Greener Tomorrow program runs year-round, intending to eliminate the use of the grocery plastic bags. To encourage environmentally friendly alternatives, customers are charged a fee for plastic bags and all funds collected throughout the year are reinvested back into the community to support environmental and social programs.
