Thirteen teams — eight men’s and five women’s, travelled from different communities to Grassy Narrows, a remote northern Ontario community, for the 10th Annual Green Arrow Cup held September 19 to 21. The energetic weekend of ball hockey brought together residents and hockey fans from across the region.

The tournament featured guest speaker Doug Gilmour, former NHL star, who shared exciting career anecdotes and lessons.

The Green Arrow Cup was founded by Rudy Turtle, former Grassy Narrows (Asubpeeschoseewagong) First Nation chief, to create more sports and recreation opportunities for residents. This year, Turtle dedicated the tournament’s 10th anniversary to his late father, whose nickname inspired the event’s name.

“Every year, people look forward to the tournament, and I am so happy the number of teams keeps growing every year,” said Turtle.

The North West Company supported this event with a $1,500 donation. We are happy for opportunities to support events that bring positive and progressive difference within each community we serve.
