In 2024, Pinaymootang First Nation, located in Manitoba on the Fairford 50 Reserve, celebrated the opening of a new splash pad facility designed to promote active living and positive social interaction among youth throughout the summer months. The project was made possible with the support of a $10,000 grant from the Healthy Horizons Foundation.

With approximately half of the population under the age of 20, community leaders identified a growing need for accessible recreational amenities to support youth navigating cultural, physical, and emotional stressors during critical developmental years. Prior to the facility's construction, many families were required to travel to nearby urban centers to ensure their children had access to summer recreation opportunities.
In collaboration with PlayQuest, LCL Construction, other community partners, and with support from HHF, Pinaymootang First Nation brought the Splash Park Project to completion in August 2024. The opening of the facility marked a meaningful investment in youth well-being, supporting physical activity, consistent youth engagement, and positive mental health outcomes.
By creating inclusive, culturally safe spaces, the project helped encourage youth to make healthier lifestyle choices, strengthen their sense of belonging, and build positive social connections, while demonstrating the long-term value of community-led investments in social infrastructure.
The Healthy Horizons Foundation, established by The North West Company, is proud to empower youth in northern and Indigenous communities to build, strong, healthy lifestyles through grants that support communiy-led programs focused on Health & Well-being, Culture & Education, and Nutrition & Food Security.
