In 2024, Healthy Horizons Foundation (HHF), North West’s charitable arm, proudly supported Queen of Peace Middle School in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, with the creation of a dedicated sensory and wellness space designed to support students with anxiety, sensory processing differences and diverse learning needs.

With a $17,500 grant from HHF, the school transformed an existing space into a comforting, inclusive environment for its 400 students. Now known as ‘The Zen Den,’ the wellness hub offers a calming space where students can reset, recharge, and find emotional balance.

The room features a dedicated yoga station for stress management, flexible seating for sharing circles, and calming lighting and music. Sensory tools and interactive games further support emotional regulation while encouraging positive social interaction among students.

The Zen Den has played an important role in helping students enhance their ability to focus, self-regulate, and improve their overall well-being.

“The room has become a vital resource for our school counseling efforts and a sanctuary for students requiring a quiet moment to reset,” shared Principal Lindsay Bennett.
