The unit comprising of mostly Indigenous participants aged 15 to 17 took on this community service initiative as part of the Girl Guides of Canada Leadership Award program.

With $800 in support from The North West Company, used to purchase ingredients at the local Happy Valley NorthMart, the ten-member team prepared 11 meal options, serving 113 individuals over two days. On May 20, meals were delivered to a local domestic violence shelter, followed by donations to an emergency housing shelter the next day.

“I got to learn new recipes and think about the nutritional value of the meals,” said one Ranger. “It was a fun experience cooking with caribou for the first time and making soups.”

Heather Brown, Fundraising Liaison for the program added, “It’s such a meaningful effort when the meals support young kids and women in our local shelters.”

At North West, we are proud to support youth-focused initiatives that foster skill development, strengthen connections, and enhance the well-being of the communities we serve.
