This July, Peawanuck, a Cree community in Kenora, Ontario, celebrated its 40th anniversary, bringing together Weenusk First Nation members and visitors from neighbouring communities for a fun-filled week, proudly supported by the Northern Peawanuck store through a Ski-Doo donation.

From July 13 to 17, the gathering provided an opportunity for community members to reflect on and remember the community’s 1986 relocation, following a devastating flood. The event featured ceremonies with prayers, songs, messages from community Elders, and tributes honouring the survivors of the flood.

Community members also enjoyed shared meals and a variety of games, contests, and a talent show. The store was pleased to support the festivities through the donation of a Ski-Doo valued at more than $13,000, which was awarded as a contest prize.
At North West, we are proud to celebrate alongside the communities we serve, honouring their history, resilience, and achievements, while upholding our commitment to building respectful relationships.
