North West Helps Bring Youth-Led Summer Programs to Nunavut Communities

Oct. 2, 2026

The North West Company proudly supported Recreation and Parks Association of Nunavut’s (RPAN), Get Happy Summer Day Camp program, a youth-led summer program offered across 16 Nunavut communities served by our Northern/NorthMart stores including Arctic Bay, Arviat, Baker Lake, Cambridge Bay, Gjoa Haven, Igloolik, Iqaluit, Kinngait, and others.

North West contributed $8,000 in gift cards to support an early training camp in Iqaluit, NU, helping young Nunavummiut leaders enhance their leadership skills to deliver summer programs in their home communities.

The camp welcomed at least five leaders from each community, helping ensure that youth across Nunavut had access to safe, welcoming, and fun recreational environments throughout the summer. Following the training camp, over 1000 campers attended summer programs across these communities where they enjoyed scavenger hunts, Inuit games, beach trips, hikes, and friendly competitions.

“The program is an opportunity for young leaders to step up and help deliver engaging summer programs in their communities,” shared RPAN Program Manager Kerby Corcoran. “Every year we see more participants joining the camp and making positive changes at home. They feel confident as leaders and proud community members. Thank you to North West for their support this year.”

North West is proud to support locally led programs that create opportunities for youth to stay active and connected, explore leadership roles, and strengthen their sense of pride and belonging.
