The North West Company acquired Sakku Drugs in Rankin Inlet on Friday, Feb. 15, 2019 and, over the following weekend, merged its pharmacy operations into the existing Northern Pharmacy in the community.

The Rankin Inlet Pharmacy is also increasing its focus on providing health information to clients, as part of North West’s ongoing mission to improve access to health products and services in Northern Canada. The Pharmacy features multiple displays of health promotion materials in both English and Inuktitut, educating clients on quitting tobacco, healthy eating, managing diabetes, and more.

To commemorate the acquisition of Sakku Drugs, Northern Pharmacy made a $5,000 donation to the Rankin Rock peewee hockey team to help them reach their fundraising goal to attend a tournament in Edmonton in late March.

Team coach Dave Wiseman was very appreciative of the donation, commenting that the players “were going to have a blast.”  The team’s tournament in Edmonton was a success as they finished first in their division and enjoyed a wonderful experience.
