The Sapotaweyak Culture Camp was an opportunity for the residents to reconnect, respect, and be one with nature and the land.

At a well planned Culture Camp, residents of Sapotaweyak, MB reconnected with traditional activities while enjoying and appreciating the outdoors. The Culture Camp was a way to welcome everyone and get the community together.

The Culture Camp helped community members connect socially, while celebrating Indigenous values and concepts of past generations, especially of living off of and in harmony with the land.

Participants spent time living outdoors, while taking part in several different activities such as making moccasins, beading dreamcatchers, boiling tea, cooking bannock, and starting a fire from scratch.

The Northern store donated supplies, food, and other necessities to ensure the event ran smoothly.

“Don’t live your life in regret! You only receive one chance go out and make the most of it,” said Sapotaweyak Northern Store Manager, Edwin John Knott.
