Seniors and elders at a residence in Pinawa, MB will be able to enjoy their first garden, thanks to the Solo Market Greener Tomorrow grant.

Every year, Pinawa Foundation distributes Solo Market’s Greener Tomorrow funds to a community project. Ironwood Gardens, a housing facility for seniors 50+ and elders, is the recipient of this year’s funds, receiving $4,426. The funds will be used for a project to improve the facility’s landscaping and trails, creating new outdoor spaces for residents to enjoy with their family members.

The current pandemic has highlighted the importance of creating safe alternative entrances and visitor areas to help reduce the transmission of the virus and this will be made possible by the creation of sidewalks and parking, as well as outdoor visiting areas including sun shelters, gazebos and benches.

A space for gardening will also be developed by incorporating decorative plants and vegetables. This healthy and satisfying activity will be extended to involve people from outside the residence, especially other seniors who for one reason or another cannot garden at home.

“It was my pleasure to have our Greener Tomorrow Funds going to such an important outdoor cause to help our treasured seniors, so they can safely enjoy time outside and what will be a beautiful garden,” said Lisa Thomas, Solo Market Store Manager.
