Students from the Nuiyak School in Sanikiluaq, NU participated in this year’s Terry Fox School Run on September 29 – for the 15th year in a row.

The school organized a walk through the community 15 years ago, and this year 167 students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 participated in the event. Afterward, they relaxed and enjoyed some refreshments provided by Sanikiluaq Northern store.

“Northern Stores’ continued support of our students and school community events is greatly appreciated and counted on in order to engage our students to be positive and active members of Sanikiluaq,” said April Crabb, Acting Principal at Nuiyak School.

Terry Fox, an 18 year-old from Coquitlam, BC was diagnosed with cancer just above his knee, resulting in the amputation of his leg. Based on his personal experience, he decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. Terry Fox Runs have now been held in his honour across Canada and around the world for 40 years, and have raised more than $850 million since 1980.
